THE ATTORNEY General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, was Tuesday presented with a 24-karat gold coin in recognition of his contributions towards the peace and stability of Ghana.
The presentation, which was done by a delegation from the E On 3 Group, a business and investment solutions company in Ghana, falls under the Otumfuo Gold Coin Project.
The delegation included Ade Ologun, Chief Operating Officer, Access Bank; Yvonne Antonio, Group Head, Retail Banking; Mabel Addo, Cluster Head, Access Bank and Paul Asimeni, Legal Advisor, Gold Coast Refinery.
Executive Director of the E On 3 Group, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, said with the gold coins being presented to prominent individuals who have contributed immensely to Ghana’s peace and stability, the list would not be complete without the name of the Attorney General (AG).
He disclosed that his outfit sought to sell about 20,000 pieces of the Otumfuo gold coin by the end of the first week in April since Otumfuo would celebrate his 23rd anniversary as Asantehene on April 26, this year.
Proceeds from the sales, he added, would be used for the construction of a cultural centre at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
On his part, Mr. Dame, shortly after receiving the gold coin, remarked that with gold being a symbol of Ghana’s rich culture, Otumfuo comes as the best candidate or an ambassador for the country’s rich culture.
Speaking of his works, Mr. Dame noted that “his [Otumfuo] works have been significant in upholding the peace and stability of our dear nation, especially in the Fourth Republic.”
The launch of the Otumfuo Project therefore, he indicated, was a step in the right direction.
“I feel greatly honoured to be on the list of recipients of this commemorative gold coin. As an Attorney General, I am mandated by the constitution to be the legal advisor to the government.
“The government can only function constitutionally well if there is peace and order, and I am responsible to ensure that law and order are upheld in the country,” he noted.
Otumfuo Gold Coin Project
The Otumfuo Gold Coin Project is aimed at celebrating the legacies and achievements of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, especially in the areas of peace and stability, as evidenced in his success of restoring peace in Dagbon following 17 years of chieftaincy-related disputes.
